Default Games under copyright on your site!?

Hi there,

An interesting legal issue bothering me lately...
There are lots of games with different super heroes and cartoon heroes that are under someone's copyright. So according to the law issues we should buy license to use the games like that...or the right owners can sue you.
Am I right? Or it's ok to place games with Shrek, Tom&Jerry or Winx on my site?

Smile Copyright for your site

I'm not going to give you a direct answer because I'm not to sure myself. I have found that in many cases as long as you don't have a premiere game on your site then you should be fine. What I mean by premiere game is that say the new Batman movie came out and whichever production company released the movie offers a game on their site to advertise the movie. If you find a way to steal the flash movie from them and display that on your site, that would be considered illegal. Although, I have seen other sites do these things.

If you find a definite or more precise answer for your question though, Please share ,

Thanx

Smile Copyright Violation

One thing to keep in mind. If you did not create it then it is IN FACT copyrighted by somebody else, Period. Copyrights are good until 75 years AFTER the author is dead. If I right some HTML code and put a goofy "Hello I am a dufus webpage" then every single picture on that site is in fact copyrighted along with the content and the code. It does not even have say copyright on the material to be copyrighted and it does not even have to registered with any agency to be copyrighted. Of course those two items help the Rippy prove absolute ownership in case of a court case with the Rippor.

If you are are using anything without permission then you are in violation of copyright laws which has a 250,000.00 dollar fine and FIVE years in prison. This is per offense. So if you rip 20 games without permission you are facing...

5,000,000.00 in fines plus 100 years in prison. Plus a multi million dollar lawsuit. Do not allow anybody to convince of otherwise not matter what. You need the actual authors WRITTEN PERMISSION signed and notarized before you can use anything.

Now will you get caught if you rip sombody elses property? Who knows for sure. That is when your friend, partner, or mad employee roles you over and turns you in for kicks and you then may be in serious trouble.

If you build it yourself then you should be OK.
